India Beat England at Lord’s After 28 Years

Notwithstanding how Ishant Sharma’s spiteful delivery to Moeen Ali with the last ball before lunch crucially gave India renewed hope on the final day at Lord’s, the desperate debacle that ensued after the interval was the stuff of nightmares.

Sitting in the Grand Stand with my two sons, I’d enjoyed the morning session, watching MS Dhoni’s clever field placings both encourage attacking shots by Ali and Joe Root, but largely nullify them. Read more…

Messi beat the likes of Thomas Muller, Arjen Robben and James Rodriguez towards the prestigious award, but the 1986 World Cup champion feels the 27-year-old won it for commercial reasons.

“Messi? I will give him heaven if possible,” Maradona said during his show on Telesur.

“But it isn’t right when someone wins something that he shouldn’t have won simply because of some marketing plan.”

“The marketing and advertising solutions gave him what he didna’t deserve. This isn’t truthful. I noticed that he didn’t want to go,” Maradona explained in an interview. Read more…

Oscar Awarded for 1942 Film Fetches $79,200 at Auction

An Oscar for color art direction awarded for that 1942 film “My Gal Sal” sold for $79,200 at auction in Rhode Island late on Monday, greater than double its high pre-sale estimate.

The golden statuette, which Briarbrook Auctions had thought would sell for $5,000 to $30,000 during the live and online auction, was snapped up by an anonymous telephone bidder from California. The cost included the buyer’s premium.

“Oscars are very a rare commodity,” Nanci Thompson, the dog owner of the auction house. “There just aren’t many around.” Read more…

Prior to the 2014 Billboard Music Awards last month, Hologram USA attempted to halt Michael Jackson’s “hologram” performance. Its owner Alki David claimed that the show would infringe patented hologram technology that he had exclusively licensed.

The performance happened as planned, however the problems behind it are apparently still not even close to over. Pulse Evolution, which worked with Billboard to produce the performance, has now filed a $10 million lawsuit against David.

Within the suit filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Thursday, June 19, the organization calls David a “charlatan who had no involvement whatsoever within the development of the Michael Jackson animation.” Read more…

Star Wars

Rian Johnson is headed for a galaxy far, a long way away, with the filmmaker in talks to write and direct Star Wars: Episode VIII and write a treatment for Episode IX.

Though he’s designed a career out of writing and directing original projects such as 2012’s Looper, he’s also got experience jumping right into a beloved property with three instances of Breaking Bad on his resume. A couple of those episodes, “Fly” and “Ozymandias” are consistently discussed as among the series’ best.

“Fly” may be the smallest episode the series ever did, happening entirely almost entirely in Gus Fring’s meth superlab. Walt (Bryan Cranston) becomes obsessive about finding a fly lurking within the lab and enlists Jesse (Aaron Paul) for help. However the episode is really about Walt’s guilt over his crimes and also the death of Jane (Krysten Ritter). Read more…
