‘Little England’ Wins Top Prizes at 17th Shanghai Film Festival
The Gong Li-led jury of 17th Shanghai Film Festival awarded Greek film “Little England” the very best prize and two other nods. Winning the coveted Golden Goblet Best Film prize, the time drama also won through its lead star Pinelopi Tsilika and director Pantelis Voulgaris.
The Jury Grand Prix went to The Uncle Victory, directed by China’s Zhang Meng, a film which was mired in controversy earlier within the week when it emerged that certain of its stars, Huang Haibo, had been convicted to have sex with a prostitute. The film wasn’t shown to press or public and questions regarding the lack of screenings weren’t answered at a SIFF press conference. Read more…
